Early History
The Creswick District is located
some 8 miles north-east of Ballarat, Victoria, Australia
and, like it's big brother, was the destination in the 19th
Century of Gold Seekers from around the globe. They came in
their droves from Britian, Europe, South-East Asia and The
Americas.
But the areas origins did not start
there. They go back millions of years to the migration of
humanoids and animals from Asia along what is now Indonesia
but was then a peninsula before they became an Island chain.
The Aborigines were here long before Australia was
"discovered" and were a constant threat to the newer
arrivals who desecrated their lands and lay claim to their
property.
As the gold started to run out "The
Diggers", as they were now called, sought land on which to
farm. However it did not come easy. Apart from the
Aborigines the settlers had to contend with dense forests
and angry scrubby brush; a brutal summer and wet winter;
and, critters such as poisonous snakes, rats,
spiders.
